MICHELE TOMASI
Born : July 9, 1965
Deceased :
Bishop of Treviso, 2019-present
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The blue color of the shield recalls the immortality of the heavens and the eternal values of the Christian faith. Bishop Tomasi wished a clear reference to this sign of Christianity, following his dedication day on 14th September, the feast of the Cross Exaltation; the golden color stands for faith, through which we understand the redemptive power that flows out of the cross.
The three silver mountains are not only reminiscent of the South Tyrolean mountains, but also point to the three mountains that are related to the life of Jesus: the Mount of Transfiguration, Mount Golgota and the Mount of Olives as a traditional place of ascension. The spring pouring out of the cross takes up the biblical image of the stream which springs from the rock (Num 20,11) or from the temple (Ez 47,1-12, Rev 22,1-2) and reminds us of the water that flows with it the blood flowed out of the side wound of Christ and is compared with the sacraments of the Church, especially with baptism.
The banner to the right of the cross is often found in the depictions of the Holy Liberal, patron of the Diocese of Treviso; to the left of the cross, a pilgrim's hat, a pilgrim's staff and bread are reminiscent of Blessed Henry of Bolzano, who settled in Treviso after a ride on the rompil and shared his bread with the poorest; he is also the patron of the city of Bolzano, the birthplace of Mons. Tomasi.
