Official blazon
Impaled. Dexter: Argent, on a cross gules, a triply bound sheaf of five arrows encircling a staff ensigned by a lily, all of the field; Sinister: Or, a long cross throughout reversed azure, on a chief of the same an eagle displayed of the field.
MOTTO: Christus petra mea.
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The cross is canting, a symbol for St. Peter, and thus for Peterson. The eagle is the eagle of St. John, and thus canting for the first name of the bishop.
The motto means "Christ is my rock".
