Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1937.

The arms represent the four main dynasties/territories of which the new county is made of; the first quarter shows the arms of the counts of Manderscheid-Blankenheim, one of the most important families in the Eifel area, the second quarter the lion of Jülich, the third the cross of Köln and the fourth the roses of the counts of Arenberg, who also owned a large part of the county. The new arms of the county Euskirchen show the same figures in a different composition.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
