Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted on October 18, 1985.
The first quarter shows a cross, a canting element. The second and third refer to the coal mining (3rd) and the electricity introduced in the mines for the first time in 1880 (the first in any French mine) is shown as a bright golden field (2nd). The fourth quarter shows the Gers river among the fields.
