Origin/meaning

These are the arms of the last lord of the village, Alexander Louis Auguste du Roux of Chevrier of Varennes du Bueil who used the following arms: quartered; in the 1st and 4th the arms of Grimaldi de Bueil, Grimaldi branch of Genoa (see also Monaco)) , 2nd and 3rd Azure the arms of de Chevrier)and an inescutcheon with the arms of De Roux).

Alexander Louis Auguste du Roux of Chevrier of Varennes du Bueil, second lieutenant to the French guards, marquis de Courtemont and lord of Varennes. Courtemont was the original village, but in the 17th century, a castle wass built in the hamlet of Varennes which then became the center of the lordship.
