CHARLES ALBERT BUSWELL
Born : October 15, 1913
Deceased : June 14, 2008
Bishop of Pueblo, 1959-1979
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The five fusils constitute the basic arms of a Buswell family of England. The three silver stars are charged on the black fusils to remind of the Doherty family of the Bishop's mother. In the base of the shield is an Indian arrowhead from the coat of arms of the Diocese of Oklahoma city and Tulsa. The State of Oklahoma is symbolized by the Indian arrowhead, for the State Seal bears a star with symbols for the five nations.
