Origin/meaning
This is a crib of the seal of Roger Pele, Abbot of Furness in 1532. The two shields of lions to denote England and Lancaster. In base is a wyvern, the badge of the 2nd Earl of Lancaster. The motto CAVENDO TUTUS (secure by caution) is a pun on the name Cavendish and is used as the 7th and 8th Dukes of Devonshire were Chairman of the company.
