Origin/meaning
The first quarter shows the diocesan arms, the wolf is a symbol for his first name Rolf, derived from Rudolf, which could mean 'famous wolf'. The third quarter refers to the village of Westtünen where he was born on a farm. The fourth quarter refers to the motto, 'you are the light of the world'. The flames are also canting, lodern means burning. The inescutcheon shows the cloak of the famous statue of the Madonna of Kevelaer and is a symbol for St. Mary.
