Origin/meaning
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known from 1584, but is possibly older. The unidentified symbol is officially described as a boat-hook. The town has an important harbour and fisheries and sailing have been of great importance.
After the merger with Svaneke in 1970 the new municipality uses a logo based on the two arms of Nexø and Svaneke next to each other.
