Origin/meaning

The cross is taken from the seal of the Scheyern Abbey, where he was a monk for 33 years before becoming bishop of Passau. The wolf is the symbol of the diocese of Passau. The base shows the Chapel of Altötting, a major centre of the Maria worship in Bavaria and beloning to the diocese.
