Distictive Unit Insignia, Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/16 inches (2.70 cm) in width overall consiting of a gold fleur-de-lis in front of a red annulet and crossed in center by a horizontal wavy blue bar bearing a gold lion passant guardant between two white five-pointed stars; issuant upward from behind the annulet a pair of white wings and below it a gold scroll with the word "RELIABLE" inscribed into it.

Origin/meaning

Brick Red and Yellow are the colours used by the Transportation Branch. The Annulet (Ring) symbolises a Wheel the basis of Transportation. The Fleur-de-lis symbolises Service in Northern France during World War II. The Lion from the provincial Arms indicates service in Normandy. The Wavy Bar and in the coat of Arms Chief indicates the Rhineland Campaign during World War II and origin as the 417th Port Battalion. The Stars allude to the Battalions Korean Campaign Credits. The Thirteen Swords in the Crest indicates the Battalion's 13 decorations for World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Service in Vietnam is further indicated by the Oriental Dragon and of the Triangle indicating the Operational Area of the Mekong Delta.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved 12 April 1967 and the Coat of Arms 26 June 2003.
