Origin/meaning

The arms are not officially granted, but were proposed in 1994.

The main part of the shield, the ermine and the chief, are derived from the arms of the Cardevacque family, Lords of Oppy from 1522-1637. The ring in the chief was added to distinguish the arms from the family arms and symbolises the historical settlement of the area. The arms could be augmented by the 1914-1918 War Cross.
