Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on November 16, 2000.

The arms show the local castle, which was destroyed in the 14th century. On the tower the arms of the Courtenay family are shown, who owned the castle at the time. In the gate there is the arms of the Byzantine Empire as, thourgh marriage, members of the family became Emperors of the Byzantine Empire.

The three fleur-de-lys refer to the connections of the family with the French Royal House.

The chief shows apples, referring to the apple orchards in the municipality.
