ZAGERSDORF
State : Burgenland
District : Eisenstadt-Umgebung
Incorporated into: 1971-1992 Siegersdorf
Official blazon
- (de) In goldenem Schild auf grünem Schildfuß, der mit drei goldenen Rebsamenkörnern nebeneinander belegt ist, zwei gekreuzte rote Weinreben, überhöht von einem roten Löwen.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on September 29, 1996.
The lion in the arms is taken from the Csák family, and may be seen as a canting symbol (Zag). The grape vines are a symbol for the importance of viticulture in the area.
The base shows three grape seeds, found in a grave hill near the village and symbolise the fact that already 3000 year ago grapes were cultivated, the oldest proof thereof in Austria. Further analysis revealed that the seeds were from three different grape varieties, comparable to modern Sylvaner, Riesling and Chardonnay grapes. One seed is also shown as a monument in the village.
