Origin/meaning

The arms were officially aopted on June 4, 1997.

The arms show the cross on the Giewont mountain (1895 m) next to the town. The crossed keys are the symbol of St. Peter, the local patron saint.

Th eprevious arms were adopted in 1968 and show the Giewont mountain with the symbol from the oldest seal of the town, dating from 1805. The symbol probably refers to the importance of forestry for the area.
