Origin/meaning
The name of this city was "Corsignano", but in the 15th century it was changed in "Pienza" by Pope Pius II (Enea Silvio Piccolomini), who was born in this city and rebuilt it. The arms shows a lion (for the bravery of the city in communal wars) and the crescent-moon (symbol of the Piccolomini family).
