Origin/meaning
The arms allude to important junctures in the armiger's life and capture some of the guiding lights by which they live. The three crowns in chief and the wreath of lilies are allusions to the educational institutions with which the armiger is connected. The fox is an allusion to Archilocus, being the creature that knows 'many little things'; this, combined with the embattlement of the chief, and the motto 'Contra Mundum', represent the armiger's beliefs in respect of a life well-led: to aspire to generalism, and to stand ready to defend the right against all comers. The water alludes to the armiger's immigrant past, and the pelican vulning herself the posture of self-sacrifice which the armiger believes ought ever to be kept in view, being called 'to serve and to lead'.
