Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 21, 1983.

The arms are canting: they show two "barbs" (Catalan for "barbels"). The Cross of Malta refers to the fact that Barbens was the centre of a Templar command in 1168, ruled by Ramon de Barrufell, lord of the castle; later, when the Templars were extinguished, Barbens became a Hospitaller command.Literature:
