ROTHES

Incorporated into : 1975 Moray District Council (1996 Moray Area Council)

Arms (crest) of Rothes

Official blazon

Azure, on a bend Argent three buckles Gules. (Above the Shield is placed a Burghal coronet)

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 2, 1931.

The arms are based on the Burgh seal and have been made a differenced version of those of Leslie, Earl of Rothes. The blue and silver colours of the field have been interchanged and the buckles made red -a Grant and an Ogilvy colour- since most of the lands in the district passed first into Grant hands and then to the Earls of Findlater, during the eighteenth century.
