BOPHUTHATSWANA
Incorporated into : 1994 Free State, Northern Cape, North West Province
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on September 8, 1972.
The shape of the shield is the traditional Tswana shield. The mine, head and crops show the three main sources of income for the people, mining (mine shaft), farming (sorghum) and cattle ranching. The spear and axe represent authority of the chiefs, as do the leopard supporters. The motto means If we stand together and work hard, we shall be blessed.
