Escudo de Planoles

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de sinople, 2 palmes d'or passades en sautor acompanyades, a la destra, d'un sautoret d'or i, a la sinistra, de 2 ciris d'or encesos de gules passats en sautor; el peu d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 4th July 1985.

The two crossed palms are a traditional sign of the arms of the village, and they're an allusion to the martyr St. Vincent, the patron saint of Planoles, represented here also by the saltire. The two crossed candles are the attribute of St. Marcellus, the patron saint of Planès, the other main village in the municipality, annexed in 1967. Planoles was a royal council, and because of this it shows the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon: four pales Gules on Or.
