EPSOM AND EWELL

Arms (crest) of Epsom and Ewell

Official blazon

Arms: Per chevron Vert and Argent in chief two Horses' Heads erased Or and in base as many Bars wavy Azure.
Motto: 'NONE SUCH'

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 4, 1937.

The green and white symbolise the grass and the chalk of the Downs, and the two horses heads mark Epsom's long association with horse racing. The two wavy bars of blue represent Ewell and its springs.

The motto "None Such" refers to Nonsuch Palace, much loved by Queen Elizabeth I, but now long destroyed. The site, Nonsuch Park, lies partly in Epsom and partly in Sutton.
