Origin/meaning
The oldest seal of the city dates from 1331 and shows the patron saint, St. Catherine with the wheel, and in front of her a small shield with the arms of Anjou. In 1432 the seal showed a shield with only the broken wheel and the letter C. The letter stands for Cremnica, not Catherine. The wheel was combined with the arms of Anjou in 1567 to form the present arms, which have not changed since.
