Origin/meaning
The original coat of arms was used by Jacob Pieters Bos (born ±1691) and is derived from a tombstone at the Lutje Bosch farm. The motto can be found on the gravestone of Grietje Pieters Bos (born 1694) (sister of Jacob Pieters Bos). In 2018, the house brand (404) was replaced by four trees and a checkered bar, where the trees are a reference to a four-headed family and to the farm Bosch, which gives the family its name, and the checkered area is a reference is to the Letmaath family with the oldest proven ancestor Everhard von Letmathe (born ±1200). The helmet sign of the crowned helmet refers to the Cruijsstede a manor, and later the Hamsterborg, where the oldest proven ancestors Pieter Tonnis (born 1583) and Muij Diewer (born 1589) lived as self-inherited (lordship) farmers.
