Origin/meaning
The Cathedral of Västerås has two patrons the Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist. The Later is symbolised by the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), used in many Seals of the Bishops and Chapter of Västerås. The Tictures are familiar fram a piece of Art from 1514 still to be seen in the Cathedral. However in modern times the Virgin Mary dominated Seals and Coat of Arms. But in 1949 in cooperation with the then State Heraldic Authority the Agnus Dei was reinstated as the motive of the Coat of Arms.
