Origin/meaning
The image is derived from the local seal dating from the 18th century. The colours were added in 1966 when the arms were officially granted. The red and golden colours are derived from the arms of the Counts of Hanau, who rule dthe area in the Middle Ages and who granted city rights in 1368.
