Arms (crest) of Slavikai

Official blazon

  • (lt) Mėlyname lauke auksinė knyga, aplink kurią – trys sidabrinės aštuoniakampės žvaigždės. Knygos lapai – sidabriniai. Skydo papėdėje banguota sidabrinė juosta, į kurią įkomponuota auksinė valtis.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 2022.

The arms symbolises the book smuggling during the years of the ban on the Lithuanian press in 1864-1904, when illegal books were transported across the Šešupė River in the Slavikai area. Book smuggling is a phenomenon in 19th century Lithuanian history, when Lithuanian publications were printed abroad, mainly in Prussia and America. These publications were illegally smuggled across the border and distributed. Lithuanian book smugglers were persecuted by the Russian authorities.
