Azure on a pale Or between two closed scrolls Argent, their spindles Or, three mullets of eight points Azure. Motto: NOLI TIMERE

Origin/meaning

The three stars represent the Holy Trinity. They can also symbolize two biblical scenes, represented by the scrolls: "I see him I see him - but not for now - I see him - but not near: A star rises, from Jacob[ ... ]" (Numbers 24,17) and "Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea in the time of King Herod the Great. Now, behold, the Magi from the East came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the King of the Jews who was born? We saw his star in the east and we came to prostrate ourselves before him (Matthew 2,1-2).

The motto Noli timere means “Know without fear. » It comes from what Jesus said to Peter in Luke 5,10, a text which was proclaimed during his episcopal ordination: « Do not be afraid, henceforth it is men you will take. We find the same expression in the sentence addressed by the angel of the Lord to Joseph in the Gospel of Matthew (1,20): "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary, your wife, into your home, since the child who is in it comes from the Holy Spirit”. These words are addressed to Monsignor Mathieu before the task that falls to him as bishop, but also to all those for whom he will fulfill the ministry of bishop.
