Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on August 23, 1993.

The arms show a combination of elements for the two former municipalities. Alàs is symbolized in the arms by Santa Maria de les Peces, a romanesque church of the 11^th century, and Cerc by an oak branch.

The oak branch is derived from the ethymology of the village. It's said that this name comes from vulgar Latin *CERCOS (and this one from classical Latin QUERCOS), "oaks". Literature:
