Origin/meaningThe arms were adopted in the late 1940s. The arms show a Viking helmet, and the helmet and the colour are derived from the fact that King Håkon wore a golden helmet at the battle of Fitjar in 961. Literature: Norwegian Municipal Network and Norske Kommunevåpen, Kommunalforlaget, 1987.
