Cerralvo
Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Mexico - Heráldica de Mexico |
CERRALVO
State : Nuevo León
Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1982.
The first quarter of the arms shows a representation of the The Sabinal National Park. The second quarter shows the lion of León, the former Kingdom in Spain after which the province was named. The third quarter shows the main facade of the city hall, the fourth quarter the San Gregorio Magno church.
The escutcheon is based on the arms of the 15th Viceroy of New Spain, Don Rodrigo de Pacheco y Osorio, Marquess of Cerralvo (in Spain) after whom the town was named. The older name, León, is mentioned in the bordure.
The motto means that Cerralvo had Cuna (city) status and was founded in 1582.
