Blason de Bischwiller

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show an image of St. Mary on a throne. St. Mary is the patron saint of the town as well as of the diocese of Strasbourg, to which the town belonged. The oldest known seal of the town dates from 1521 and already shows the same composition. The crown was in a later image in the L'Armorial d'Alsace misinterpreted as three stars, which was later restored.
