Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 19, 1951.
The golden dragon is that of Wessex in a green field crossed by a symbolic representation of the River Avon.
The black billet stands for the coal-mining area in the south of the district, while the wheatsheaves refer to the agricultural area in the north.
