Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 8, 1979.

The arms show an archer, symbolising Einar Tambarskjelve from Melhus, who was a famous chief and archer in the 11^th century. He is mentioned as an archer for King Olav Tryggvason in the battle of Svolder in 999.

The symbol was first intended to be used by the Sør-Trøndelag county, but the county did not adopt it.
