Origin/meaning

The national arms of Honduras were adopted in 1825 and show a round shield, surrounded by the motto "Republica de Honduras Libre Soberana E Independiente", and surrounded by two cornucopiae, a crest with a quiver of arrows and placed on a landscape.

The shield itself shows the triangle, based on the seal of the Central American Federation of the early 19th century, with two towers, a rainbow and sun. Between the towers a mountain is placed. The towers symbolise the defense readiness and the independence of the country. The triangle symbolizes equality and freedom.
