Province (Landskap): Västmanland
County (Län): Västmanlands län

Arms (crest) of Arboga

Official blazon

I fält av silver en svart örn med näbb, tunga och fötter röda samt vardera vingknogen belagd med en sexuddig stjärna av guld.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1969 and confirmed in 1974.

Arboga received city rights already in the late 13th century and the oldest known seal dates from around 1330. It shows an eagle with two stars and a letter A. On the eagle three balls or coins are placed, on the wingtips and on the tail (see below). The origin or meaning of the eagle is not known. As an eagle is a very common symbol in Medieval seals, the stars and the town's initial were most likely added to distinguish the seal from those from other cities. The left arms above were used until 1969 when the new right arms were officially granted.
