Origin/meaning

The chief shows the symbol of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, to which the bishop belongs. Th red cross is taken from the arms of Ptuj where the bishop was born. The star is the symbol for St. Mary.

The burning heart is the symbol of Polycarp of Smyrna (Izmir), the local patron saint. The item in the centre is an item used in ancient christening in the area.

The motto is Müjde Umudumuzdur and means The gospel, our hope.
