Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 30, 1996.
The arms of Aitona (in Segrià) show a rooster (a traditional element derived from the old local seals), the golden bezants of the Montcada family (owners of the Marquesat d'Aitona) and the arms of Catalunya/Aragon. The rooster is also explained by a legend, according to it, the village was alerted by all roosters singing together of a Muslim attack, and thus the village was saved.
