Origin/meaning

The arms were proposed by the State Archives in 1938 for a the combined municipalities Untergriesheim, Obergriesheim and Höchstberg. The arms show in the right half a type of hook used by the local fishermen, and in the left half the cross of the Teutonic Order. The latter ruled the area from the late 15^th century until 1803. As the merger never occurred, the arms were no longer needed. Finally in 1959 Untergriesheim adopted the arms, which were officially granted on September 14, 1959.
