Description: A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, on the dexter arm of a saltire Azure fimbriated Or three alerions Argent. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed “FIDES ET AUDAX” in Blue.
Origin/meaning
The red shield indicates the original allocation of the unit as Artillery. The blue saltire is representative of Civil War Service with the Union forces. The three alerions, taken from the arms of Lorraine, denote World War I service.
The arms were originally approved for the 134th Field Artillery Regiment, Ohio National Guard on 7 February 1930. It was amended to change the design and blazon of the shield on 2 January 1934. It was redesignated for the 134th Field Artillery Battalion, Ohio National Guard on 22 November 1944. It was redesignated for the 174th Field Artillery Battalion, Ohio National Guard on 19 March 1951. The insignia was redesignated for the 134th Artillery Regiment, Ohio National Guard on 23 November 1960. It was redesignated for the 134th Field Artillery Regiment effective 2 September 1993, with the description and symbolism revised. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 134th Field Artillery Regiment, Ohio National Guard on 10 February 1930. It was amended to change the design and blazon of the shield on 2 January 1934. It was redesignated for the 134th Field Artillery Battalion, Ohio National Guard on 23 November 1944.
