NO 280 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE

Hisotry: Formed at Thorney Island in December 1941.

Official blazon

In front of a fountain a hand proper holding a pole flying therefrom two flags representing the international distress signal "NC". The top flag is of four rows of blue and white chequers whilst the bottom is divided horisontally into blur, white, red, white and blue bars.
Motto: We shall be there.

Origin/meaning

The Fountain symbolises the Sea and the Distress Signal the Air-Sea Rescue Role. The badge was granted in April 1944.
