Region : Catalonia
Province : Tarragona

Ginestar.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'argent, una mata de ginesta de sinople florida d'or, acostada de 2 rodelles de gules amb una creu de Malta d'argent. Per timbre una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 22, 1995.

The arms show a bush of broom, a canting plant: "ginesta" is broom in Catalan. The plant is very common in this area. The broom is flanked by the cross of Malta, because Ginestar was repopulated in 1206 by the Templar knights, later Hospitallers when the order extinguished. The Templars had a large castle in the neighbour town of Miravet.
