JAYUYA

Territory : Puerto Rico

Arms (crest) of Jayuya

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The red colour of the shield symbolises the red character of the village. The green bar symbolises the Cordilera Central mountain range, which runs through the municipality.

The symbol in the lower half of the arms is a typical decoration of the Taino Indians that inhabited the area prior to the colonisation. The name Jayuya is derived from the older Taino name Hayuya.

The crown was added as a symbol for the autonomy obtained when Jayuya was made into a separate municipality.
