DIOCESE OF LITTLE ROCK (Dioecesis Petriculana)

Country : United States
Denomination : Roman Catholic

Established : 1843

Arms (crest) of Diocese of Little Rock

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The small inverted crosses refer to Saint Peter, the Petra or ¨rock¨ upon whom Christ built his church. The saltire represents Saint Andrew, the patron of the cathedral and of Andrew Byrne, the 1st bishop of Little Rock 1844-1862.

The white and blue are in honor to Mary as patroness of the USA under her title Immaculate Conception. The sixpointed blue star was taken from the arms of Pope Gregory XVI who established the diocese on 28.11.1843.
