Region : Pohjanmaa
Former province : 1997-2009 Länsi-Suomi (until 1997 Vaasa)

Närpes Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

  • (fi) Punaisessa kentässä kaateinen, kultainen vesilehvä, jolla on hopeasiivet.
  • (sv) I rött fält ett bevingat sjöblad, sjöbladet av guld, störtat; vingarna av silver.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 4, 1955.

The arms combine elements of the two historical seals of the town. The oldest dates from 1606 and shows either a heart or a water-lily leaf. In the arms the latter was chosen as a symbol for a coastal town. The wings are derived from an 19th century seal, which showed some birds.
