KEMIJÄRVEN MAALAISKUNTA

Region : Lapland
Former province : Lapland
Incorporated into : 1973 Kemijärvi

Kemijärven maalaiskunta Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Mustassa kentässä kanto, jonka yläpää teroitettu kolmikärkiseksi ja sen molemmin puolin saatteena kuusisakarainen tähti, kaikki hopeaa.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 3, 1954.

The arms show a tree trunk, which is used in a traditional way of wolf hunting in the area. It also resembles on the top a type of harpoon, used traditionally by the local fishermen. The roots refer to the mining in the area.

The two stars symbolise the North Star and refer to the northern position of the town.

The arms were continued by the new Kemijärvi municipality in 1973.
