Municipality : Varėna

Arms (crest) of Marcinkonys
Official blazon
Lithuanian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 1, 2004.

The patriarchal crosses refer to the local custom of building large wooden crosses with two crosspieces, also to the resistance of the local people against the Polish regime (1920-1939): building of such Lithuanian crosses was one of the methods of protest. The red colour refers to blood spilled for keeping the Lithuanian identity.

Wolf heads refer to the wolves living in the area.
