German | In Blau auf goldenem Dreiberg ein Bündel natürlich gefärbter Eisenstangen, das mit zwei goldenen Bändern gebunden und von einer goldenen Lilie überhöht ist. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 11, 1479 by Bernhard von Rohr, Archbishop of Salzburg, as the town was a possession of the Archbishops at the time.
The arms show a bundle of iron rods on a heraldic mountain, surmounted by a fleur-de-lys. Althofen is situated on a sharp hill. In historic times, the city was of key importance because of the iron ore mines in the mountains nearby. The ore was smelted locally and brought to Althofen, where it was sold.
