Origin/meaning

The Tau is the cross of Francis of Assisi a favourite saint of the bishop, like Pope Francis. The Gospel with the eagle of Saint John refers to the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. The two hands symbolizes the handshake when having a meeting with Bishop Claude Hamelin.

The wheat and clover recall the agricultural parish of Saint-Patrice-de Sherrington, the birthplace of Bishop Hamelin.

The motto Joie et esperance (Joy and hope) is also symbolized by the red (joy) and green (hope) colors in the chief.
