Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 14, 1778, by King Charles III.
The arms show in the upper part the symbol for the Franciscan Order, as the town was named after St. Franciscus, the official name being San Francisco de la Aguada. The lower part refers to the second voyage of Columbus, during which he discovered Puerto Rico. Literature:
